Huge emotions among Lindsey’s fans all over the ski world with her outstanding performance at her final race at the World Ski Championships 2019 in Åre (SWE), which brought her a bronze medal in downhill. This is her eighth medal in total and her fifth in Downhill at World Championship events. Interestingly enough, she captured her first FIS medal in Åre back in 2007 when she was 2nd in both speed races – and last spring she celebrated her 82nd and very last World Cup victory in the downhill of the 2018 World cup finals held there. With this bronze, Lindsey had also become the oldest woman to secure a medal at a World Championships.

Lindsey’s performance in Åre is more than remarkable considering the fact that she hasn’t been able to train much downhill since the last summer because of her knee injury, caused by a crash while training in Copper Mountain. In January at the races in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Lindsey could not perform on her usual level, clearly struggling with her knee problem. Her ability to accomplish this result in her last race is truly perfect. “This is a wonderful way to leave the scene, I was so happy that many people from my family could come as well as Ingemar, who brought me that nice bouquet of flowers in the finish area after my run,” Lindsey said. “It has been the best case scenario for me. I raced a last time with all my heart and my love for skiing, I wanted to leave on a high note and I made the best of my actual potential. I’ll for sure strongly miss that feeling to move at high speed over a nice snow field”, she added. This bronze felt like gold to Lindsey and her fans.
